Psalm 40 - 7 Day Devotional - Day 7

Psalm 40:17 By Kat Baskaran

"But as for me, I am poor and needy; may the Lord think of me. You are my help and my deliverer; You are my God, do not delay." - Psalm 40:17

Psalm 40:17 reveals something powerful about David. After speaking of deliverance, rescue, and praise, he ends not in pride, but in humility.

“But as for me, I am poor and needy…”

David who was a king, still calls himself needy. Not because he lacked status but because he understood his constant dependence on the Lord, his need for the Lord.

This upcoming Psalm 40 night, as our speakers rise to share their stories, this story reminds us that testimony does not begin with strength, it begins with our need.

Every story shared is rooted in this truth: We were poor in spirit. We were desperate.
We were in a pit. And the Lord thought of us.

“May the Lord think of me.”

What a breathtaking phrase. The Lord does not overlook the broken woman, the weary mother, the grieving daughter, the one battling silently, or whatever else each of His daughters face. He THINKS of her. He MOVES toward her. He DELIVERS her.

“You are my help and my deliverer.”

Our testimonies are not a celebration of human resilience or human grit, it is a declaration that God did not delay. That the Lord delivered us, helped us.

Every woman who has spoken at Psalm 40 and will be speaking, is evidence that He helps.
Every tear that turned into praise is evidence that He delivers.Every healed wound is proof that He is still God.

Heavenly Father,

We come before You as Psalm 40:17 women, poor and needy, yet deeply loved and seen. Thank You that You think of us. Thank You that no story shared surprises You or overwhelms You.

Lord God, we lift up Michelle and Sarah to You. Strengthen them with Your Spirit. Guard their hearts and minds. Let every word spoken be covered in Your peace and led by Your truth. Remove fear, comparison, or distraction, and replace it with boldness rooted in humility.

May their testimonies not point to themselves, but to You as Help and Deliverer. Use their stories to lift women out of silent pits. Use their vulnerability to bring healing. Use their obedience to ignite hope.

And For every woman attending, meet her in her specific place of need. Remind her that You think of her personally. If she feels forgotten, speak nearness. If she feels stuck, speak freedom. If she feels weary, be her strength.

We trust You as our help. We praise You as our Deliverer. You alone are our God.

In Jesus name we pray,

Amen, amen, amen.
